Deleting and recovering
Does PhotoBroom delete photos permanently?
No. PhotoBroom deletes through the standard iOS photo confirmation sheet — the same one any app must use — so nothing leaves your library without you approving it. Deleted items go to Recently Deleted in the Photos app, where iOS keeps them for 30 days before removing them permanently. Until then you can restore anything from Photos › Albums › Recently Deleted.
Can PhotoBroom delete something without asking me?
No. Every deletion goes through the iOS confirmation sheet, and there is no setting that bypasses it. Even Auto-Process All Groups — the Pro action that keeps the top-scored photo in every similar group — presents the full batch for confirmation before anything is removed.
I kept a photo by mistake. Can I undo that?
Yes. Keeps are reversible; deletions are not. Every photo you keep is listed in the Kept tile on the Home screen, and removing it from there un-keeps it everywhere, so it becomes eligible for its categories again. Un-keeping a photo from a similar-photos group brings that whole group back.
Does deleting in PhotoBroom free up iCloud storage too?
If your library uses iCloud Photos, deleting a photo on your iPhone deletes it everywhere immediately — there is one shared library rather than a separate copy per device. The photo then sits in Recently Deleted for 30 days on each of those devices before iOS removes it permanently, so it is recoverable from any of them during that window. If iCloud Photos is off, the deletion is local to that device. Note that iCloud Photos is sync, not backup: a deletion is not something an iCloud backup will restore.
Privacy
Does PhotoBroom upload my photos?
Your photos and videos are analysed on your device and are never uploaded. There is no account and no sign-up. The analysis runs on Apple's Vision framework, and no media — not the files, not thumbnails, not derived image data — is sent anywhere.
Why does PhotoBroom need access to my photo library?
PhotoBroom needs photo library access because finding duplicates, screenshots and oversized videos means reading the library. It works with limited access if you would rather grant only a selection, though it can then only work with the photos you have selected.
Does PhotoBroom work offline?
Scanning, grouping and deleting all run on your device and need no network connection. A connection is only used for things outside the photo pipeline, such as fetching purchase status from the App Store.
The free tier and Pro
How much of PhotoBroom is free?
Every feature is free. All seven cleanup categories are open to everyone, scanning is unlimited, and scan results are always fully visible — the space you could reclaim is never hidden behind the paywall. Free users can delete 50 items of any type per calendar day, plus 2 large videos. The allowance resets at midnight in your device's time zone.
What does PhotoBroom Pro add?
PhotoBroom Pro removes the daily deletion limit, so you can clear a whole backlog in one session, and adds Auto-Process All Groups, which keeps the highest-scoring photo in every remaining similar group and deletes the rest in a single batch. Pro is available as a subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase.
Do photos I keep count against the daily limit?
No. Only deletions count, and only when they actually complete. Keeping, skipping, scanning and browsing are unlimited and free. Cancelling the iOS confirmation sheet consumes none of your allowance.
I bought Pro but the app still shows the limit.
Open Settings inside PhotoBroom and tap Restore Purchases. That re-reads your entitlement from the App Store using the Apple ID that made the purchase — make sure you are signed in with the same one.
Scanning and results
Why did PhotoBroom group two photos that look different to me?
Similar Photos compares Apple Vision feature prints for photos taken close together in time, and the strictness is a setting rather than a fixed rule. If groups look too loose, raise the similarity threshold in Settings › Detection; if PhotoBroom is missing obvious duplicates, lower it. Nothing is deleted on the app's judgment alone — you approve every group.
Why is a photo I like in Low Scored Photos?
The score comes from an on-device model rating technical and aesthetic qualities, and it has no idea what a photo means to you. It is a sorting aid, not a verdict. Lower the sensitivity in Settings › Detection to surface fewer photos, and keep anything the model got wrong — keeps are remembered.
The scan is slow or seems stuck.
The first scan reads your entire library and is the slow one; later scans are incremental and only look at new photos. Scanning continues in the background, so you can leave the app. Pull down on the Home screen to resume a scan that was cancelled, or request a fresh one.
What does PhotoBroom require to run?
PhotoBroom runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18.0 or later, and is available in 22 languages.
Does PhotoBroom work on a Mac?
Yes. PhotoBroom requires macOS 15.0 or later, on a Mac with an Apple M1 chip or later. It is the iPad version of the app running on macOS rather than a separate Mac build, and it works on that Mac's own Photos library. PhotoBroom runs on Apple Vision Pro the same way, and needs visionOS 2.0 or later. One purchase covers every device signed in to your Apple Account.
