Long-time reviewers describe losing free access to their own older photos after a 2025-era update. Others report the app freezing or closing when deleting more than about a hundred items at once, and sorted photos reappearing in the unsorted timeline after an update. And a recurring complaint is about what the marketing implied: people buying premium expecting duplicate detection and not finding it, because Slidebox has none.

Is there an app that replaces Slidebox’s album filing?

No, and this is the branch where the honest answer is to stay. Album assignment — tapping the photo currently on screen into an existing album without leaving the triage flow — is Slidebox’s actual speciality, and none of the iPhone cleaners verified here offer it. Slidebox sells a one-time permanent unlock alongside its subscriptions, and its advertising sits in the free tier, so buying out of the free tier addresses the single most-reported complaint without changing apps — bearing in mind that users have reported lifetime purchases failing to restore after an update and support emails going unanswered for months. The other move is Apple’s own Photos app, where adding a photo to an album is free, built in and permanent. It has no swipe-triage loop around it, which is precisely what Slidebox built and charges for.

What changes about privacy when you leave Slidebox?

Your privacy position can improve or stay exactly the same, depending on where you go. Slidebox’s privacy policy, last updated 24 August 2024, reserves the right to upload photo information to company or service-provider servers and has not been narrowed since its optional backup service was retired on 1 February 2026. What Slidebox does not say is where its analysis runs. It has never claimed on-device processing, and nothing surfaced about actual behaviour after the backup service was retired, so that question is open in both directions — not settled against them.

What happens to your photos if you stop using Slidebox?

Nothing is lost, and one thing is worth doing first. Slidebox works directly against the system Photos library and imports nothing into storage of its own, per its App Store description, so the albums you filed into are ordinary Photos albums and they stay exactly where they are after the app is deleted. The item worth checking before uninstalling is the in-app trash: swiping up in Slidebox only marks a photo, and nothing leaves the Photos library until that trash is emptied, so anything sitting in it is still in your library and still taking up space. Every alternative on this page reads the same system library, so a half-finished pass is not wasted work — it simply reappears in the next app as photos you have not decided about yet.

The free-tier boundary nobody can point at

One thing about Slidebox has no answer anywhere, and it is the thing that decides whether staying is viable at all. The 2025-era update that moved older photos behind premium arrived without documentation: Slidebox has never published which date ranges remain free, and the boundary described on this page is reconstructed from a consistent cluster of user reports. So a free user cannot work out in advance how much of their own library they will be allowed to reach — they find out by hitting it, several years back into the timeline, mid-session.
